Series recap: It was a winning week for the Tennessee Jumbo Shrimp, where they won five of the Memphis Redbirds’ six games and climbed to the top of the International League East with an 18-12 record. They are now tied for first place with the Rochester Red Wings.
Emphasize: Again, Charles Leblanc delivered a key game for the Jumbo Shrimp on Saturday, scoring a two-run brace to open a tie in the seventh inning of Jacksonville’s 6-4 victory. The versatile Leblanc is batting .374 for the year with an OPS of 1.064.
shellfish feeling: Willians Astudillo unleashes power at home plate. The 30-year-old, who spent four seasons and 167 games in the majors, hit .313 in the Memphis series with a pair of home runs and six RBIs.
On the bridge: The Jumbo Shrimp begin their series against the Sounds, the Triple-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Nashville roster includes wide receiver Brian Navarreto, who played 33 games with the Jumbo Shrimp last year and attended Arlington Country Day School in Jacksonville. One to watch in this series will be left-handed pitcher Ethan Small, a top 10 prospect in the Brewers system who has been superb so far for the Sounds (2-1, 1.98 ERA, 37K, 13 hits allowed in 27 1/ 3 sleeves).
stadium fun: It’s a week marked by alternate jerseys for the Jumbo Shrimp, a tribute to the Jacksonville Red Caps of the Negro Leagues on Wednesday followed by the Miami Nights 2022 themed jersey on Thursday. Also on the program: Friday’s celebration of 40 years since Michael Jackson’s Thriller album, Rex the Beach Boulevard Dino bobbleheads on Saturday and Princess Day on Sunday.
Probable pitchers on Tuesday: To be confirmed.
