Rumors regarding the transfer of French midfielder Paul Pogba have been circulating lately. But in a new development, it is understood the Manchester United footballer could end up joining arch-rivals Manchester City. According to a report by The Guardian, “Pogba is open to crossing the city.”

Manchester City are reportedly considering signing Pogba on a free transfer when the midfielder’s contract expires this summer. The 29-year-old midfielder was offered a new contract last season but the former Juventus midfielder hasn’t accepted it. Manchester United currently sit sixth in the points table with 58 points from 36 games.

The report published by The Guardian states: “They are ready to offer the Frenchman a four-year contract, with the option of a further year.”

Pogba had joined Manchester United from Juventus in 2016 for a fee of £89m. In six seasons, he scored 29 goals for the Red Devils in 154 English Premier League appearances. In his second spell at Manchester United, he has so far won a League Cup and a Europa League. He was also an integral part of France’s World Cup-winning squad in the 2018 FIFA World Cup. In the 59th minute of the final game against Croatia, Pogba scored a crucial goal. In the end, France had won the game by a margin of 4-2.

Needless to say, if Pogba joins Manchester City, it will rekindle the famous and much talked about old rivalry between Manchester United and Manchester City. Ahead of the 2021-22 season, it was believed that Cristiano Ronaldo would return to Manchester City from Juventus. But surprisingly, the club that was the frontrunner in signing Ronaldo was Manchester City. But eventually things changed dramatically and the former Real Madrid striker decided to return to his former club Manchester United.

But Pogba will not be the first footballer to represent both Manchester-based clubs, should he decide to join City. Previously, players like Brian Kidd, Denis Law, Andrew Cole, Peter Schmeichel, Owen Hargreaves, Carlos Tevez donned the jerseys of the two Manchester-based clubs.
